Focus Area

  • Requirements Engineering and Management
  • Conceptual Software Engineering
  • Wireframing and UI/UX Concepts

Short Description

In this requirements engineering project, qoncept led a series of on-site workshops to develop a new software system that combines Level 2 process control with Level 3 production management capabilities. The focus was on identifying user needs related to managing production routes, treatment prescriptions, and internal product identifiers. Instead of relying on static documentation, the project centered on interactive mockups and dynamic interface prototypes that illustrated key workflows to control and optimize the steelmaking processes. These visual assets formed the basis for user-centric software design and implementation planning.

Focus Area

  • Digitalization Strategy and Roadmapping

Short Description

qoncept conducted a tailored workshop to strengthen system-level thinking and improve the quality of digital solution development. Core topics included the distinction between digitization, automation, and digital transformation, the role of system architecture and integration, and the often-overlooked step between idea and implementation. Real-world use cases were used to explore challenges such as fragmented data landscapes, modular system design, and defining clear system boundaries. The workshop combined theoretical input with practical group exercises and enabled participants to better assess how digital solutions create value and how to structure projects for successful integration into existing processes and IT landscapes.

Focus Area

  • Ingot and Continuous Casting Optimization
  • Process Modelling

Short Description

For this project, qoncept developed a structured logic to calculate the temperature-dependent thermophysical properties of steel grades. The tool, which was based on regression models, covered key parameters such as heat capacity, thermal conductivity, density, and latent heat. Two steel categories were included: low-alloyed and stainless. The tool was then extended to cover broader alloy ranges. The implementation included a microsegregation-based method to estimate solidus and liquidus temperatures. This solution allows users to evaluate steel grades more effectively and improve the solidification calculations of continuous and ingot casting processes.

Focus Area

  • System and Interface Documentation

Short Description

In this project, qoncept supported a software supplier in preparing user documentation for a newly developed Level 2 automation system at an integrated steel plant. The deliverables included multiple operator manuals covering functional modules such as master data management, raw material preparation, ladle metallurgy, equipment tracking, and general system functionalities. In addition to writing and structuring the content, qoncept contributed interface screenshots, tooltip definitions, and aligned the document structure with project-specific conventions. The result was user manuals to support the commissioning, training and day-to-day operation of the system.

Focus Area

  • Digitalization Strategy and Roadmapping
  • Software Enterprise Architecture

Short Description

This project focused on developing a target architecture for a plant-wide software system that integrates planning, production tracking, material flow control, and quality documentation. The architecture was designed to replace multiple isolated legacy tools with a modular, service-based platform connected to ERP and automation layers. The design incorporates application-layer modules for dispatching, status tracking, material routing, and user guidance, supported by a central knowledge layer and unified data model. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring scalability, maintainability, and consistency across all production areas. The resulting architecture documentation serves as a strategic blueprint for implementation across multiple production lines.
